Archivist/Digital Asset Management

We are recruiting for an Archivist with Digital Asset Management experience for a hybrid position in Dublin, CA.

The successful candidate will:
  • Provide Access to born-digital and digitized content. Works to ensure that digital content in the collections is as accessible as possible to appropriate audiences, following the strictures of privacy concerns, copyright regulations, and donor restrictions. Works towards improving user experience.
  • Ingest and process born-digital materials
  • Acquire born-digital materials. Identify and acquire born-digital content within collecting scope. Administer file transfer following best practices and utilizing appropriate tools.
  • Manage and preserve born-digital and digitized content. Migrates digital content from legacy platforms (such as DBTextworks and Presto), as well as digital content that is currently not managed (stored on servers), into the archive’s emergent digital asset management solution. Ensures that content is reliably preserved. Monitors file format obsolescence and other risks. Monitor and maintain all Archives digital storage devices.
  • Manage Metadata. Ensures accuracy of descriptive, structural, and administrative metadata. Follows professional metadata standards for cataloging born-digital archival materials. Audits and performs clean-ups of metadata as needed.
  • DAM maintenance. Work with internal and external technology partners to maintain and extend functionality of the Archive’s digital asset platform.
  • Collection Maintenance: Manages acquisitions, accessioning, arrangement, cataloging and preservation of vertical file and serial collections.
  • Digitization. Works closely with the Archive team to determine priorities for digitization and to establish digitization projects. Ensures that digitization standards are met and metadata quality is maintained.
 
Required Qualifications:
  • Advanced Degree (Master’s) in archival management or Library Information Science (MLS degree) or equivalent experience. Digital or archives emphasis preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience working with an archives collection with digital assets or as a digital asset management professional.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience working as an archivist or librarian, an archives technician or library technician working under the direction of a professional archivist or professional librarian.
  • Experience using a digital asset management system.
  • Experience with one or more descriptive metadata standards relevant to the work of a digital archivist.
  • Knowledge of digital preservation theory and practice, including best practices, current technologies, administrative/technical metadata and file format standards, and the OAIS reference model.
  • Experience with or demonstrated aptitude to learn disk imaging, digital forensics tools, and digital preservation management software.
  • Experience creating and maintaining archival authority records.
  • Experience using or managing one or more of the following software tools: DBTextworks, Presto, StyleLabs M, Adobe Bridge & Acrobat.
  • Knowledge of legacy digital formats and non-digital audio and audiovisual formats.
  • Experience using command line interfaces and the ability to write and use simple scripts.
  • Experience embedding and using embedded metadata.
  • Demonstrated project management and digital product development skills, including strong understanding of databases and working knowledge of a variety of digital content formats and standards.
  • Knowledge of a variety of productivity applications, database systems, and graphic editors is preferred. General technological savvy and an ability to keep abreast of technological developments within the industry.
  • Previous experience with an Enterprise Content Management System.

Job Type: Contract

Experience:
  • Digital Asset Management: 1 year (Preferred)
  • Minimum 3 years of experience working with a archives collection with digital assets or as a digital asset management professional.
Contract Length:
  • 5 - 6 months
Contract Renewal possible.

Pay Range: $30 - $35 per hour, DOE
